I’ll probably get around to posting another update when I have the time, but I thought I’d leave you with what I thought was an excellent summary of the Libyan imbroglio – a comment left on an article in the Telegraph Online. Early in the morning, Hospitaller wrote:
It makes me laugh to see the number of so called educated, intelligent people who think that every time there is a revolution in cess pool of a country with a failed economy, no legal system and no tradition of law and parliamentary democracy, that there is clutch of new George Washingtons just waiting to emerge from obscurity and lead them to the promised land. Yeah, sure, right after you win the lottery, buy a champion football team and have a super model fall in love with you.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. With that level of self-belief, I would have snared Claudia Schiffer by now and whisked her off in my Mercedes SLR Stirling Moss.
Turmoil in Tripoli

Looking at the recent pictures of the “rebels” rampaging through the Libyan capital, I can only fear how far this is going to go before Western leaders finally see that they have played no insignificant part in yet another regional destabiliation exercise. It is as if they want to see yet more bloodshed and boats making their way across the Mediterranean. There is far too much concentration on the here and now, and little consideration for what may lie around the corner: the dreamers still believe that the toppling of Muammar Gaddafi will result in some fledgling democracy, the culmination of what has been dubbed the “Arab Spring”. When Gordon met Gaddafi…

I laugh every time I see an image of Gordon Brown – who often looks as though he is going to catch and kill a fly – though not as impressively as Barack Obama. Then there is Libyan leader Colonel Gaddafi, who looks more like a cartoon caricature every day.
Imagine, then, the sight of these two in one photo taken at the G8 summit in Italy….
A true meeting of minds. Tweedledum and Tweedledumber…You’ve just got to love Gaddafi’s oversized “Africa” brooch and the stick on medal ribbons… I want one of those! Though I am not so keen on what looks like a chiffon dressing gown last seen being worn by one of his harem in Tripoli.
At least Gaddafi is true to his Bedouin principles, though: rather than stay in some opulent hotel he has decided to ship over a tent…
